CADCREATIVES: ON OUR RADAR 👀 Justin Bieber’s SKYLRK Sensory Runner
Share
Justin Bieber’s SKYLRK Sensory Runner is officially on our radar. Reportedly four years in development, the new sneaker brings a bold and unconventional perspective to footwear design.
There’s a lot here that caught our attention. The exaggerated proportions, sculptural upper and unconventional outsole give the Sensory Runner a distinctive identity in today’s sneaker design landscape.
But are we fans of the final execution? Not quite.
For us, the stark, flat white treatment across the upper and outsole makes the shoe look cheap. There’s plenty of dimension in the silhouette, but the color, materials and finish aren’t doing the design any favors. The result feels more like the off-price version of the concept than the hero product.
Imagine the same SKYLRK Sensory Runner executed in a hairy suede with an off-white outsole. That combination would immediately introduce texture, depth and warmth while allowing the sculptural lines of the sneaker to stand out. A relatively simple material and color shift could make the entire shoe feel considerably more elevated.
It’s a great example of something we talk about constantly in footwear design and development: CMF—color, material and finish—can be just as important as the silhouette itself.
A great footwear concept gets your attention. The right materials and execution determine how you perceive its value.
